“I don’t want to think about death!”
“I don’t need a will. My kids can figure it out.”
“I’ll be dead, why should I care?”
Do any of these phrases sound familiar? Although the thought of death is unpleasant, it will eventually happen to all of us. It is critical to your well-being, as well as your family’s, that an estate plan is created. Below are some of the common questions I have received when it comes to estate planning.
👪 How do I talk to my parents/my kids about their/my estate plan? We know this can be a very uncomfortable conversation for many people. However, we have found that finding the right time, the right environment, being honest and sincere, and stressing the importance of all of you being on the same page helps make it easier than you may think.
✍️ Can I just do this on my own? Do I need a professional? You could put together a will yourself (or even use an online service) but there are many variables to be considered that you may not think about. A professional knows everything that should be looked at and guides you along the full path.
📜 I have a plan in place but how often should I review it? Your plan should be reviewed at least every 3-5 years or after any major life changing events.
If you, or someone you know, has had these questions; or anything similar, please give me and my team a call.
